Cummins Power Generation
We recently had the opportunity to work with Cummins Power Generation to photograph the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circus train. Cummins manufactures the equipment that powers all of the circus trains. We learned what an amazing feat it is to orchestrate and oversee a traveling circus! When the circus came to Greenville, SC, we were ready.
On the day of the shoot, it was overcast and gray. That was no big deal for the shots we needed inside the train car. But for the "beauty" shot of the car itself, that was not the best. However, we were able to put several images together to give Cummins the look they were going for and we think you'll find the progression interesting, to say the least. The
first image below show the train as it sat. The concrete was broken and cracked, and there were bare trees and gray sky in the background...nothing but gray!We eliminated the trees and added a mountain background, since Greenville is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Then we addressed the nasty concrete situation by adding grass. The results were something that was actually possible had the train yard been in a slightly different location. Then we updated the circus logo and voila! A much more pleasing image. Here's the progression:
We thoroughly enjoyed working with all the great people at Cummins Power Generation and thank them for giving us the opportunity to help them with their project and also for the education we got on the circus world.
